About Petculator
Last updated: October 25, 2026
Who makes this site
Petculator is built and maintained by Marcos Ortega, an IT systems technician based in Madrid, Spain. I am not a veterinarian, a vet tech or an animal nutritionist, and nothing on this site should be read as if I were.
What I can do is write careful code and read sources carefully. Pet owners search for things like "how old is my dog in human years" or "how much should my cat eat" and often get a single number with no explanation. These calculators show the method, the formula and the source behind each number, so you can judge it yourself and take it to your vet.
Where the numbers come from
- Veterinary associations and their guidelines: AVMA, AAHA, AAFP and WSAVA.
- The Merck Veterinary Manual and university veterinary schools.
- Peer-reviewed studies, cited by journal and year.
- For costs, published figures from the ASPCA and the pet industry, always dated, and always editable in the calculator.
Each calculator page lists its sources with the date we last checked them. Our full approach is on how we calculate.
What we don't do
- We don't invent statistics, testimonials or personal anecdotes.
- We don't give medical advice or diagnose. Health-related pages say so at the top.
- We don't sell products or take payment to feature them. The site is paid for by display ads (disclosure).
Corrections
If you find an error, especially a vet or researcher, please tell me. Fixes are made promptly and the page's "updated" date changes.
